R&D highlights

Github source code development progress

NKN testnet code development progress over the last two weeks is mainly reflected in nkn, nkn-client-js, nkn-wallet-js, and nkn-mining repositories. In addition, the NKN core development team is spending a large amount of effort in rewriting and improving the consensus algorithms and ledger module. The latter activities are on private branches and thus not reflected in below table.

The latest release : v0.5.3 is stable and a high performance release.

NKN Testnet v0.5.3-alpha

  • Introduce beneficiary wallet address that will receive the mining reward instead of node’s wallet
  • Will try to remove invalid transactions when building new block
  • Code refinement
  • Fixed several bugs

Early Redemption for NKN test tokens

NKN launched its voluntary test token early redemption program earlier this month. This program was put in place to help our community offset the cost associated with running NKN nodes during our testnet phase. This program will only be offered for a limited time and certain restrictions apply. Please see our medium post below for more details.

Conditions and restrictions:

  • The minimal NKN test token you can redeem is 1,000 from each wallet address
  • Conversion ratio: 10,000:1, 10,000 NKN test tokens will be converted to 1 ETH
  • The redemption period will be December 5–15, 2018
  • This early redemption is entirely voluntary: you can either redeem your NKN test tokens now into Ethereum, or wait for mainnet launch next year to convert to real NKN token.

NKN Finalist for Nokia Open Innovation Challenge 2018

NKN was chosen as one of 6 finalists out of over 300 applicants in the Nokia Open Innovation Challenge 2018 and was invited to present at the awards ceremony on December 6th at Nokia Bell Labs headquarter in Murray Hill, NJ. The company was the youngest and only blockchain company out of the finalists selected. During the course of the event, Co-founder, Bruce Li as well as VP Business Development, Allen Dixon, successfully demonstrated NKN’s live testnet as well as pitched NKN’s blockchain powered network to the executive jury, chaired by Nokia CTO and Bell Labs President Marcus Weldon.

The NKN team also participated in business and technical discussions with Nokia executives from business units such as Bell Labs, Strategy and Partnership, IT & Digital Transformation, Mobile Broadband BU, Enterprise BU, and Bell Labs Consulting. The result of which is to offer startups like NKN access to Nokia’s resources to help grow their businesses. NKN will continue to engage with Nokia as we move toward our mainnet launch in 2019.

About NKN

NKN is a new kind of network connectivity protocol & ecosystem powered by blockchain for an open, decentralized, and shared Internet. By blockchainizing the network layer, NKN is providing the missing third pillar of internet infrastructure. Just as Ethereum has done for compute and Filecoin for storage, NKN will decentralize network connectivity and transmission.
