NKN has long since believed that networking is the missing link in offering a fully decentralized internet and a modern Web 3.0 stack. However, networking alone cannot provide all the resources needed for modern internet applications. That is why, we at NKN have strategically partnered with companies in key areas to collaborate and bring together all the elements needed for developers to build fully decentralized applications.
To host a service in the cloud today, you need networking, compute, and storage capabilities and decentralized infrastructure is no different. For compute, we have recently partnered with Ankr, a company that provides cloud compute using idle processing power from data centers and edge devices. We are also partnering with Taxa to bring together decentralized network and trusted compute (TEE) to enable a new breed of high-performance, trustless applications and services.
In the area of storage, we collaborate with bluzelle, a key-value database storage for serverless and distributed applications. In fact, you have probably seen our original D-chat application and presentation which was built in collaboration with bluzelle. In addition, we are in various phases of discussion with several other blockchain projects that cover file systems to block storage. However, these are not the only infrastructure companies and we have plans to include more partners soon.
NKN’s core algorithm was designed to scale to millions of nodes, and our data transmission is entirely off chain. We have also implemented nanoPay as a unique payment channel solution for video streaming type of services. To further improve TPS performance, we can use state of the art layer 1 and layer 2 scaling solutions. For example, we partner with Harmony, who take a holistic approach by incorporating sharding and other techniques at different levels of the stack for scalability.
While Infrastructure and scalability is necessary as an enabler, it is the applications themselves that will ultimately attract enterprises and consumers. NKN will develop a few of our own flagship applications, such as nCDN and secure Pub/Sub messaging, that will showcase the capabilities of the NKN’s network. However, the long term goal is to encourage our developer community and partner companies to create applications and develop a thriving ecosystem around our platform. We have already developed partnerships in verticals such as IoT (Nokia and IoTex), AI/ML (DxChain), Content (U Network), Name services (Portal Network), and Crypto wallet (O3).
NKN is also quite selective in which projects to partner. There are too many partnerships in the crypto space that lack substance and relevance, thus the word “partnership” has been diluted in value. We try to build collaborations that have actual mutual benefits, know the other team’s personnel and technology well, and act on concrete next steps.
With NKN’s mainnet launched and network growing, it is now time to focus our attention on the next phase of evolution and build products that we can bring to market. We may choose to build some of these ourselves, such as the case with nCDN and secure Pub/Sub messaging, and in other cases we will rely on the resources of our partners. This is why NKN will continue to collaborate with partner companies to create new solutions and business opportunities for both NKN and our ecosystem.
